Brief summary
Ubiquitous computing has brought new challenges for the design of scenarios for people-technology interactions. Ubiquitous computing environments can contain sensors and actuators, tangibles and other interconnected technologies leading to a diversity of interaction possibilities. Despite considerable research into formal accessibility standards, related work barely investigates them in ubiquitous computing environments. We investigated means of analyzing equitable access in ubiquitous environments based on two formal instruments: the W3C-WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines of the World Wide Web Consortium) and the Universal Design Principles and Guidelines (UD). As a result, we have produced an assessment tool called UbiAccess. We applied the instrument in case studies including the simulation of a remote interaction scenario due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Our research also investigated a case of a child diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and a case of a child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
