It is with great joy that we share that Professor Claudia Maria Bauzer Medeiros, a faculty member at IC and former president of the Brazilian Computer Society – SBC, has been awarded the “ACM Presidential Award”.
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) recognized Professor Claudia for her lasting and significant contributions to the computing communities of Brazil and Latin America, as well as to the ACM itself. The 2026 honorees were chosen by their peers for promoting relevant advancements in computing education, technology policies, and increased participation in the field, positively impacting colleagues and society.

Professor Claudia is the first researcher from Latin America to win the ACM Presidential Award. Established in 1985, it is awarded at the discretion of the ACM president to individuals whose contributions to the field of computing are aligned with the ACM's objectives.
The ACM is considered the leading scientific and professional society in the field of computing worldwide, bringing together educators, researchers, and professionals from around the globe. Founded in 1947, it now has over 100 members, half of whom are from the United States. Among other things, the ACM is also responsible for the annual awarding of the ACM AM Turing Award, known as the "Nobel Prize of Computing."
