5. Why are restriction enzyme sites usually of even length?

Answer:

Restriction enzyme recognition sequences are usually palindromes, i.e., sequences equal to their reverse complement. In order to be a palindrome, a sequence must have an even number of bases (even length). Odd length recognition sites are rare, because odd length sequences do not form palindromes.
