No matter how much I try to keep a cool dispassionate attitude towards
  this paper, I cannot avoid the impression that the purpose of the
  various theorems is merely to fill the gaps between the proofs,
  and the purpose of the proofs only is to prevent the margins of
  the page from collapsing against each other.
