Preparing the solutions Had to use ice-cold water for NH4HCO3 to prevent decomposition. The Na2CO3 dissolved promptly. The NaHCO3 barely dissolved in the overfull beaker. The anhydrous MgSO4 first created a milky suspension and took several minutes to dissolve, but then was clear. Reactions Mistakes The 0.05 mol amount was excessive. The NH4HCO3 solution prepared at 28 C was decomposing spontaneously. The beakers were barely large enough to hold enough water to dissolve the NaHCO3. Should have used the same molar concentration for MgSO4.
