Michael Kubecka kindly translated my Voynich fonts into the True Type format that can be used in Macintosh computers. He also wrote the following instructions for installation. ============================================================================ Macintosh Font Installation: Fonts for the Macintosh can have as many as two components: the bitmap font (which is contained in a document whose icon looks like a suit-case) and the postscript font (whose icon looks like anything _but_ a suitcase) -- which is the postscript version of the bitmap. The bitmap component is required; the postscript component is optional (but must always be accompanied by its bitmap version). However, with the postscript component, the font will look much nicer when printed. Installation of these fonts on the Macintosh is really very simple. Chances are, you're using some incarnation of System 7. Basically, you drag and drop any fonts (Bitmap suitcases or Postscript fonts) on top of the icon of your System folder (which is usually at the root-level of your Mac's hard drive). If you're using System 7, your Macintosh will say, "These belong in _______, should I put them there?" just click OK and you're done. If you're using System 7.0, the Mac will copy the bitmap resources directly into the System file and copy the postscript fonts into the Extensions folder (or loose in the System folder -- I forget which). If you're using version 7.1 or greater of the operating system, the Mac will put any font files in the Fonts folder and be done with it. The Extensions folder and Fonts folder are both at the root-level of the System folder. The new fonts you added will not be available to any currently running apps -- you'll have to quit them and re-launch them to get them to re-acquire the system-wide font list. In some versions of the OS, the Mac will not allow you to make font changes (additions/deletions) without quitting out of currently running apps -- in that case, it'll notify you as such first. If you're using System 6 (which you probably aren't), you'll need to use the Font/DA Mover utility to copy the bitmap fonts into the System file. (Consult your Macintosh manual). You can drag and drop any postscript fonts to the System folder, where they'll fall loosely into the root level, which is fine. ============================================================================
