We aim to develop mathematical and software tools to speed up the reconstruction of fragmented artifacts, such as ancient ceramic vessels and documents, mural paintings, fossils, etc.. Our approach is based on an original multiscale outline comparison technique, supported by a new curve smoothing technique (geometric filtering). As part of this project, we developed an innovative technique to estimate the mutual information between the two sides of the same fracture line.
