Prof. Rubens Murillo Marques receives title for the relevant services rendered to the municipality of Campinas.

Professor Doctor Rubens Murillo Marques, was born in the City of Rio de Janeiro, on 19/03/1937 and has a Bachelor's degree in physics from the University of São Paulo. In 1966, he began his activities as professor of statistics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Campinas, being appointed by Dean Zeferino Vaz to coordinate and direct the implementation of the Unicamp Institute of Mathematics.

At Unicamp, he maintained a strict relationship with Professor Doutor Zeferino Vaz, participating in the Commissions: Standards Committee for the Competition for Provision of Chairs and Free Teaching; Commission to prepare the regulations for the Data Processing Center of the University of Campinas and the Permanent Commission for the Full Dedication to Teaching and Research Regime.

He also structured the curriculum and proposed the creation and implemented the Bachelor's course in statistics. He was also responsible for the implementation of the first Bachelor of Computer Science course in Brazil.
After passing the post of Director General of the Statistics Department of the São Paulo State Secretariat of Economy and Planning, in 1986 he moved from the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science to the Institute of Economics at Unicamp, retiring in August 1989.

Among his various titles, Prof. Rubens is a professor of statistics at the University of São Paulo, former President and Honorary President of the Carlos Chagas Foundation, former Executive Director and founder of the SEADE Foundation, former President of the Board of Trustees of the Cásper Líbero Foundation and former President of the Board Curator of the Elijass Gliksmanis Foundation.

He was also a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the North American Academy of Arts and Sciences, American Statistical Association, London Mathematical Society, Biometrics Society, Society for Industrial and Applied Statistics, Founding Member of the Brazilian Association of Population Studies, International Association of Educational Assessment, Brazilian Society for Operational Research, Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science, Board of Directors of Fundação Centro Tropical e Tecnologia de Alimentos - Campinas, Founding Member of the Diabetes Institute - Escola Paulista de Medicina and Academia Campinense Maçônica de Letras.
